A day dedicated to an engine that got shoved in one of the worse trucks of it's day, making it the best truck in it's day!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

At least it had a solid axle underneath it. It of course went to other things to, like buses, dump trucks, delivery trucks, box trucks, tow trucks, flatbed trucks, etc.

So I propose a day to one of the best engine's ever made, besides the 1UZ.

I love how the Ram uses heavy duty engines for one main reason:

Miles to Overhaul:

Ford: 250,000 (402,325 km)

GM: 200,000 (321,860 km)

Chrysler: 350,000 (563,255 km)

Thing is damn beast! Not 6BT exclusively but very pro cummins.

Worse trucks of its day? By what measure? The BR/BE did kinda revolutionize the truck market

One of the worst, so mid range, behind Ford and in front of GM. But overall quality was pretty bad, especially if you live up north.

And that's just on average, there are quite a few million milers out there.

Kinja'd!!!

What overall quality issues do you speak of here?

My pops' old '96 12V (manuel ftw) was at 830,000 before he sold it. All original internals.

Rust, the 47RE, the interior, and well I suppose that's probably just a 90's American truck thing.

If it had the 47RE, it would have had that many miles on 12 transmissions lol.

Yeah pretty much. I'll definitely give you the slushbox problem - not just the 47RE but any 4xRx is shit. Ask me how I know! Rust is a problem for nearly any '90s American vehicle, due to those "innovative" treatment and paint processes that left so many vehicles to chip and rust within years (sometimes months) of rolling off the factory line.

Interior, well I will disagree there. The design, ergonomics and materials were what set the Ram leagues apart from the other two. They had the best interior until GM's redesign in 1999. Don't even get me started on the 97-03 Fords

I kno rite?! My old '98 1500 chewed through three 46REs in eighteen months

Granted, our 4L60E seemed to let go every 40k miles, so Chrysler wasn't the only culprit.

Yup. Ford's E40D wasn't a pinnacle of engineering either. In general, '90s trucks sucked. A poor amalgamation of previous utilitarian mixed with the era's promise of fancier stuff.

They sure did look good though (save the bubble F150/250)
